The Bombay High Court has granted a dynamic interim injunction to protect the upcoming film ‘Ramayana: Rise of a Legend’ from online piracy ahead of its theatrical release. The order restrains unidentified individuals and digital platforms from illegally recording, uploading, streaming or sharing the film without authorisation.
According to a report by Bar and Bench yesterday, Justice Madhav Jamdar passed the order on November 2 in a copyright infringement case filed by Godpower Media Private Limited. The company told the court that the first part of the film was made at a cost of around Rs 2,000 crore, while the combined budget of both parts is Rs 4,000 crore.
Godpower Media also informed the court that footage of both trailers had been secretly recorded during invite-only preview screenings and circulated online despite confidentiality agreements. The company sought copyright protection for the film’s script, characters, footage, lyrics and recordings.
The court directed internet service providers and social media platforms to block or remove pirated links and mirror websites after receiving written notice from the company. Lawyers representing Google and other global social media platforms raised no objection to the order and assured the court of prompt action against reported links. The matter will be heard next on December 16.
