MnM Talkies has officially revived its award-winning audio detective series ‘Bhaskar Bose’, bringing back one of India’s most popular fictional investigators after a three-year hiatus. The new season, titled ‘Bhaskar Bose: He’s Here – Part 1’, recently premiered on Spotify, marking a fresh chapter for the long-running audio drama and introducing a new storytelling approach in Indian podcasting.
According to an ANI report, the revived season introduces a unique innovation in the audio entertainment space. For the first time, select episodes will feature AI-generated visuals created using OpenArt AI technology. The visuals are designed to complement the audio narrative, allowing listeners to experience the story in two ways — either by immersing themselves in the traditional “theatre of the mind” through sound, or by watching the story unfold through graphic novel-style visuals that accompany the audio.
The creative force behind the series is Mantra Mugdh, who serves as co-writer, director, producer and also lends his voice to the titular detective Bhaskar Bose. Mugdh’s vision has played a key role in shaping the podcast into one of the benchmarks of India’s evolving audio storytelling industry.
Speaking about the new season, Mugdh said the aim was not to replace imagination but to enhance it with visual storytelling. “With the new season of Bhaskar Bose, we are not replacing the theatre of the mind — we’re giving it a visual companion. This is about seeing the sound,” he said, describing the project as an effort to explore the full potential of audio storytelling when approached with cinematic ambition.
The show follows the adventures of Bhaskar Bose, a sharp-witted detective known for his keen intellect and instinctive investigative skills. He is accompanied by his trusted friend and investigative partner ACP Bikesh Das, portrayed by actor Shadaab Hashmi. Together, the duo navigates complex cases in a world inspired by classic detective comics, blending suspense, wit and richly layered characters.
Since its debut in 2019, ‘Bhaskar Bose’ has grown into one of India’s longest-running and most celebrated audio fiction series. It was among the first three podcasts launched when Spotify entered India’s podcast ecosystem and notably the only fiction series in that initial lineup. Over the years, the show has produced more than 250 episodes, covering over 100 investigative cases and delivering more than 5,000 minutes of storytelling, attracting millions of listens globally.
The series has also received several major industry accolades. It won Gold at the New York Festivals Radio Awards and was honoured at the Exchange4Media Golden Mikes for two consecutive years in 2022 and 2023. The podcast has also been recognised at the E4M Play Streaming Media Awards and received the Impact Digital Influencer Award, underscoring its influence on the growth of audio fiction in India.
Over time, the series has cultivated a strong global fan community with dedicated fan clubs and online forums where listeners discuss theories and hidden clues from past episodes. The return of the detective has already sparked strong reactions from fans, with the show trending on Spotify India within hours of the new season’s release.
The new season of ‘Bhaskar Bose’ is currently streaming on Spotify, with fresh episodes scheduled to drop every 15 days as the mystery series continues to expand its legacy in the world of audio storytelling.
