‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ set for big-screen return as PVR INOX, YRF plan re-release

PVR INOX has joined hands with Yash Raj Films to bring back ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ to cinemas, announcing a nationwide re-release of the much-loved film on January 16, 2026, marking 15 years since its original theatrical debut.

Directed by Maneesh Sharma, the 2010 romantic comedy launched Ranveer Singh in a breakout role alongside Anushka Sharma and went on to become one of the defining Bollywood films of its decade.

According to the report, ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ was more than a box-office success—it quietly reshaped the modern Hindi romantic film. Set in the bustling, chaotic world of Delhi weddings, the film told a story of ambition, partnership, love and friendship that felt rooted, contemporary and relatable. Its youthful energy, colloquial dialogue and memorable soundtrack struck a chord with audiences across age groups, helping it evolve into a cultural phenomenon.

Produced by Yash Raj Films, the movie captured an aspirational, entrepreneurial India that was confident, middle-class and unapologetically real. By placing its protagonists within a lived-in social ecosystem rather than a glossy fantasy, the film normalised romance built on equality, conflict and shared dreams. Over time, it also influenced a wave of rom-coms grounded in local settings and flawed, human characters.

Announcing the re-release, Niharika Bijli, Lead Strategist at PVR INOX, said ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ remains as fresh and relatable today as it was at the time of its release. She described the re-release as a celebration of storytelling that continues to resonate across generations, adding that the film’s humour, music and emotional honesty make it a timeless theatrical experience.

Director Maneesh Sharma reflected on the film’s origins, recalling that the idea grew from a simple observation about young Indian entrepreneurs taking risks with limited resources. That thought eventually shaped a story that blended ambition with friendship and love, deeply embedded in familiar streets and everyday realities. He said the film has taken on a life of its own over the years and expressed excitement at the prospect of audiences rediscovering it on the big screen.

The re-release forms part of PVR INOX’s broader initiative to revive landmark films and celebrate exceptional talent by bringing cinematic classics back to theatres. The move offers younger viewers a chance to experience the film in its intended format, while longtime fans can relive the nostalgia that made ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ a beloved favourite.

Audiences will be able to watch ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ at PVR INOX cinemas across India from January 16, 2026, with booking details and theatre listings expected to be announced shortly.
