Audible, MIB unveil audiobooks on India's cultural legacy

In a unique initiative aimed at promoting India’s rich cultural traditions through the power of storytelling, audio content platform Audible has partnered with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to launch a series of ten audiobooks on India’s cultural heritage.

According to a PTI report yesterday, the curated collection has been carefully developed to showcase timeless narratives rooted in Indian history, mythology, art, and tradition. The project is part of the ministry’s broader mission to make India’s cultural depth more accessible and engaging, especially to younger audiences and listeners on digital platforms.

The audiobooks, available in Hindi and English, feature compelling voiceovers and are now live on Audible. The titles include narratives around classical Indian literature, legendary heroes, epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata, as well as lesser-known folklore from across the Indian subcontinent.

The initiative seeks to harness the reach of audio storytelling to celebrate India’s identity and knowledge systems in an innovative format.

Speaking at the launch, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Sanjay Jaju said that audio formats offer a powerful way to revive interest in India’s cultural roots, especially among the youth.

“These stories have lived in oral tradition for centuries. Bringing them to digital audio platforms ensures their relevance and reach in today’s tech-driven society,” he said.

Audible India’s Country Manager, Shailesh Sawlani, expressed pride in collaborating with the ministry for this project. “Our mission has always been to bring powerful stories to listeners. Partnering with the I&B Ministry allows us to honour India’s unmatched heritage while making it accessible to millions, especially those who prefer to consume content on-the-go,” he said.

Each audiobook has been voiced by seasoned narrators, with immersive background scores to enhance the listener experience. The initiative is part of Audible’s ongoing efforts to contribute to India’s cultural preservation through digital storytelling, while also offering listeners globally a chance to explore the country’s civilizational values.
