Amazon MX Player, the free streaming platform by Amazon, has unveiled the much-anticipated trailer for its upcoming original series ‘First Copy’.

Set to premiere on June 20, the series stars comedian-turned-actor Munawar Faruqui in his OTT debut, alongside a stellar ensemble including Gulshan Grover, Krystle D’Souza, Saqib Ayub, Ashi Singh, Meiyang Chang, Inam Ul Haq, and Raza Murad.

The trailer offers a vivid throwback to the 1990s — a decade when Mumbai’s obsession with cinema reached fever pitch and stories were currency. At the centre of ‘First Copy’ is Arif, played by Munawar, a charismatic, street-smart youth who dives deep into the underground world of film piracy. But as Arif’s business grows, so do the risks — both emotional and existential.

This series dives into the dichotomy of stardom and survival, reflecting the pulse of a city that thrives on dreams, reel and real. Set against the backdrop of India’s evolving entertainment culture, the show touches on themes of piracy, ambition, nostalgia, and the price of imitation — all while questioning the ethics and emotional costs of replicating someone else’s dream.

The release marks a major milestone for Munawar Faruqui, who shared, “First Copy is that underdog story and extremely special to me as it marks my acting debut in a series. Playing Arif was an interesting challenge — he’s full of life, has his flaws, but big dreams. Growing up, films were a huge part of my world, and this story took me back to those days.”

Krystle D’Souza, portraying Mona, added, “She’s regal, wounded, and unapologetically proud — a woman who refuses to disappear even when the world tells her she’s past her prime. Her equation with Arif is layered — relevance, redemption, and emotional comfort. First Copy gave me the space to portray those quiet tensions.”

Veteran actor Gulshan Grover, taking on the role of the powerful Mahesh Kumar, reflected, “This felt like revisiting an era I’ve lived through. Mahesh is commanding and built his world through control and clout. The 90s film world was raw, ambitious, and emotional — and this series captures that spirit beautifully.”
