A recent episode of ‘Wheel of Fortune’ saw Akshay Kumar strike a thoughtful chord as he shared his perspective on the idea of “seva,” turning a festive Baisakhi special into a moment of reflection alongside celebration.
According to a press note, the episode featured contestants Sadeev Singh, Gurpreet Singh Tikku, and Karandeep Singh, with the atmosphere filled with festive energy. Akshay Kumar, hosting the show, added to the spirit with his traditional look, engaging contestants in conversations that went beyond the game.
During an interaction with Gurpreet Singh Tikku, the conversation took a meaningful turn when he spoke about contributing a portion of his earnings towards donation, a practice he said he has followed since childhood through visits to the Gurudwara. Responding to this, Akshay Kumar offered his personal view, saying that while he is not one to correct others, he feels the word “donation” is not the right way to describe such acts.
He went on to explain that what people often call donation should instead be seen as “seva,” emphasising that individuals are merely passing forward what they have been blessed with. According to him, it is not about giving from one’s own capacity, but about being given the opportunity to serve.
Expanding on the thought, Akshay said that speaking about seva is important, as it encourages others to contribute in their own way. He described seva as a powerful and meaningful act, adding that the more people engage in it and talk about it, the more it can inspire a wider culture of giving.
The actor also reflected on the current global environment, expressing concern over ongoing conflicts and the human cost associated with them. He questioned the reasons behind such wars, pointing to the loss of lives and the impact on families, and remarked on the irony of conflicts over resources, calling it troubling.
Blending festive cheer with introspection, the episode stood out for its mix of entertainment and thoughtful dialogue. ‘Wheel of Fortune’ airs Monday to Friday at 9pm on Sony Entertainment Television and is also available for streaming on Sony LIV.
