Bharti Airtel has partnered with Google to bring an exclusive offer of 100GB free cloud storage via Google One for its postpaid and Wi-Fi users in India, addressing the ever-growing demand for secure and convenient data storage.
As per a joint press statement released on Tuesday, all eligible Airtel users will receive 100GB of Google One storage for six months at no additional cost, which can be shared with up to five family members. After the free period, users will be charged Rs 125 per month, which will be automatically added to their monthly Airtel bill. Customers who wish not to continue can simply opt out and end the subscription.
Karen Teo, Vice President, Platforms and Devices Partnerships, APAC, Google, said, “We are excited to partner with Airtel to bring Google One to millions in India. Together, we will make it easier for users to safely back up photos, videos, and important files on their phones with more storage across Google Photos, Drive, Gmail and more.”
The initiative is targeted at solving one of the most common pain points for smartphone users — limited device storage. With smartphones becoming central to daily life — storing photos, videos, work files, documents, and chats — the need for cloud-based backup solutions has never been more crucial.
Siddharth Sharma, Director of Marketing and CEO – Connected Homes at Bharti Airtel, echoed the same, stating, “With smartphones now central to personal and professional lives, storage is a growing concern. Our partnership with Google aims to address this by offering a secure and user-friendly cloud storage experience to millions of our postpaid and broadband customers.”
The service is compatible with both Android and iOS platforms, making it accessible to Airtel’s broad user base. Additionally, WhatsApp chat backups on Android devices, which are typically stored on Google Account storage, will now benefit from this additional space, making phone switching and data recovery more seamless for users.
The offer gives customers a taste of Google’s premium cloud service without the upfront cost, allowing them to experience the benefits of integrated cloud backup before deciding to continue.
This collaboration is expected to reduce user dependence on external drives and frequent data cleanups, empowering users to back up their memories and files without worry. It’s also a strategic push from both Airtel and Google to promote cloud storage adoption among Indian consumers.
