Abhishek Bachchan is all set to return to the digital screen with his next film titled ‘Kaalidhar Laapata’, which will stream exclusively on ZEE5 from July 4.
The actor made the announcement via a post on his official X handle on Wednesday, unveiling the film’s poster and setting the tone for what appears to be a reflective and intriguing drama.
The poster features Abhishek seated atop a tree branch in a quiet rural setting, dressed in a modest checked shirt and pyjamas, sporting a rugged beard — far removed from the glitz of his earlier characters. His look hints at a man in self-imposed exile, seeking something deeper. “Sometimes, getting lost isn’t a detour, it’s where the real story begins. Full of dreams, twists, and the people who make it worth it,” Bachchan wrote in the caption, sharing the poster and revealing the release date.
The film is helmed by acclaimed director Madhumita, and features Daivik Bhagela and Zeeshan Ayyub in key roles alongside Abhishek. This collaboration marks a significant step into performance-heavy storytelling rooted in rural landscapes and emotional introspection.
In the lead-up to the announcement, Bachchan had also posted a cryptic yet poetic message that resonated with themes of self-discovery and retreat. The post read:
“Main ek baar laapata hona chahta hoon, bheed mein khud ko phir se paana chahta hoon. Jo kuch bhi tha sab de diya apno ke liye, ab zara sa waqt bas apne liye chahta hoon.”
The lines reflect a man’s yearning to disconnect in order to reconnect — possibly an echo of his character’s emotional journey in the film.
As per an ANI report, ‘Kaalidhar Laapata’ continues the actor’s growing presence on OTT, following his performances in films like ‘Dasvi’ and ‘Ludo’, and series such as ‘Breathe: Into the Shadows’. His ability to take on complex, layered roles in recent years has earned him critical appreciation.
Bachchan was last seen in ‘Housefull 5’, alongside Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh. He also has another big project in the pipeline — ‘Raja Shivaji’, directed by Riteish Deshmukh. The historical epic is slated to release theatrically on May 1, 2026, across six languages and boasts a star-studded ensemble including Sanjay Dutt, Genelia Deshmukh, Mahesh Manjrekar, Fardeen Khan, and Bhagyashree. The film will feature music by Ajay-Atul and cinematography by Santosh Sivan.
But before stepping into history, Abhishek is ready to disappear into the quietude of Kaalidhar Laapata. The title, which loosely translates to ‘The Lost of Kaalidhar,’ sets the stage for a narrative steeped in emotional layers, solitude, and rediscovery — something fans are eagerly looking forward to.
