Netflix has announced that its first Telugu original series, ‘Super Subbu’, will premiere on July 2, created and directed by Mallik Ram, the comedy-drama stars Sundeep Kishan, Mithila Palkar and Murali Sharma in lead roles.
Acoording to a Netflix press release, the series follows the story of Subramanyam Chillukuri Rao, popularly known as Subbu, a simple and sincere young man whose life takes an unexpected turn when he is appointed as a sex education officer in a village called Maakipur.
With no prior experience in the field, Subbu arrives in the village hoping to educate people. He soon finds himself dealing with curious villagers, awkward situations and unexpected challenges. what begins as a temporary assignment gradually turns into a life-changing journey that tests his relationships, career and personal beliefs
The show uses humour to explore important topics such as sex education, consent, family relationships and generational differences. through Subbu’s experiences, the series aims to spark conversations on subjects that are often considered uncomfortable or taboo in society.
Speaking about the series, Netflix India vice president of content Monika Shergill said ‘Super Subbu’ combines comedy and emotion while bringing attention to important social issues in an entertaining manner. she added that the story is driven by memorable characters and strong performances from the cast.
Director Mallik Ram said the team wanted to create a fun and heartwarming story while making discussions around sex education more accessible. according to him, humour was the best way to address such topics and make audiences feel comfortable engaging with them.
Apart from Sundeep Kishan, Mithila Palkar and Murali Sharma, the series also features Maanasa Choudhary, Get Up Srinu, Jeevan and veteran comedian Brahmanandam in key roles.
Written by Mallik Ram, Ramesh Eligeti and Shivani Dhobal, ‘Super Subbu’ is produced by Rajiv Chilaka and Bharath Laxmipati under the banner of Chilaka Productions.
Blending comedy, social messages and village life, ‘Super Subbu’ promises to offer viewers an entertaining and refreshing watch when it premieres on Netflix on July 2.
