Television and film producer Ekta Kapoor has entered the luxury jewellery space by partnering with Ekatra Jewels, marking a significant move beyond her long-established presence in the entertainment industry. The collaboration positions Kapoor as an investor and strategic partner in the conscious diamond jewellery brand as it seeks to tap into India’s rapidly expanding luxury jewellery market.
Ekatra Jewels announced the partnership in June, describing it as more than a business investment and positioning it as a women-led initiative aimed at reshaping traditional perceptions of jewellery ownership and consumption. The brand intends to combine storytelling, innovation, technology and sustainable craftsmanship to appeal to a new generation of consumers, the Ekatra Jewels said in a press release.
For decades, Kapoor has built her reputation by creating stories centred on strong and independent women. Through her association with Ekatra Jewels, she aims to bring the same philosophy to the jewellery segment by encouraging women to view jewellery as an everyday expression of identity rather than something reserved for special occasions.
Speaking about the partnership, Kapoor said jewellery should accompany women through their daily lives, ambitions, celebrations and personal journeys. She added that the vision behind Ekatra resonated with her because it reflects the aspirations of modern women who are conscious, expressive and independent.
The company is positioning itself as a design and technology-driven jewellery house, with a strong focus on lab-grown diamonds. Ekatra’s portfolio includes 100 percent IGI-certified lab-grown diamonds, including Type II-A diamonds, a category known for its purity and brilliance.
A key highlight of the brand’s innovation strategy is the launch of Shristi Ratna, a patented 108-facet diamond cut. Unlike traditional diamonds, which typically feature 57 facets, the new design has been developed to enhance brilliance, light return and visual appeal. The concept draws inspiration from the cultural significance of the number 108 in Indian traditions while incorporating modern engineering techniques.
Alongside Kapoor’s association, Ekatra Jewels also unveiled ‘Oh My Gold’, a collection co-created with Sussanne Khan. The collection uses proprietary hollow-construction technology that makes pieces significantly lighter than conventional gold jewellery, allowing them to be worn more comfortably on a daily basis.
With Kapoor shaping the brand’s cultural narrative and Ekatra focusing on technological innovation, the company is aiming to establish a distinctive position in India’s luxury jewellery market.
