Prime Video is bringing back one of its most successful action franchises with ‘Jack Ryan: Ghost War’, a feature-length continuation of the popular ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’ series. Actor John Krasinski is reprising his role as the iconic CIA analyst-turned-operative, with the new film promising a larger cinematic scale, higher global stakes and a darker espionage-driven narrative.
According to a Prime Video press release, ‘Jack Ryan: Ghost War’ marks the franchise’s transition from long-form streaming storytelling into a full-fledged action thriller film. The project expands the Ryanverse after four successful seasons of ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’, which built a strong global fanbase through its blend of political intrigue, intelligence operations and grounded action.
Speaking about his return to the role, Krasinski described the experience as the most enjoyable phase of his journey with the character so far. “It feels amazing. Honestly, I think this is the most fun I’ve ever had playing the role,” he said. The actor added that shifting from a series format to a feature film allowed the team to move faster and embrace a more traditional cinematic storytelling style while building on audiences’ familiarity with the characters.
Krasinski also reflected on why the character of Jack Ryan continues to resonate with him. “I always loved the idea that a Jack Ryan existed, that there was somebody who was human and decent and real out there on the front lines, being a true hero rather than someone with a cape or with superpowers. It’s inspiring,” he said.
The new film places Jack Ryan back in the middle of a high-risk global conspiracy after an international covert mission exposes a dangerous threat. As tensions escalate, Ryan reunites with trusted allies including CIA operative Mike November, played by Michael Kelly, and former CIA official James Greer, portrayed by Wendell Pierce. Joining the team is MI6 officer Emma Marlowe, played by Sienna Miller.
Directed by Andrew Bernstein, the film has been developed from a story by Noah Oppenheim and John Krasinski himself. The makers are positioning ‘Ghost War’ as the most ambitious chapter in the franchise yet, combining intelligence warfare, political suspense and large-scale action sequences.
‘Jack Ryan: Ghost War’ is set to premiere on May 20 exclusively on Prime Video across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
