Zee Keralam is set to strengthen its prime-time programming with the launch of its new fiction show ‘Valyettan’, premiering on April 20. Positioned as an emotional family drama, the series brings a fresh narrative to Malayalam television by placing the brother–sister relationship at the core of its storytelling.
The development comes as part of an official press release, with the channel positioning ‘Valyettan’ as its next flagship offering. Rooted in Kerala’s cultural ethos and joint-family traditions, the show explores themes of unconditional love, sacrifice, and responsibility, while highlighting the emotional strength of familial bonds.
At the centre of the story is Valyettan, an elder brother whose life revolves around caring for his four sisters, often putting their needs ahead of his own aspirations. The narrative unfolds through the individual journeys of the sisters, each dealing with personal struggles, societal expectations, and emotional conflicts, while relying on their brother as a constant source of support.
Adding another layer to the storyline is Dr. Parvathy, a strong and compassionate character who shares a deep-rooted connection with Valyettan from childhood. Their relationship introduces a subtle romantic thread, balancing the intensity of the family drama with moments of emotional tenderness.
The show features a cast led by Jayakrishnan in the titular role, alongside Veena as Dr. Parvathy. The ensemble also includes Ranjitha Mukundan, Honey, Aleena Sajan, and Vaiga, who play the sisters navigating different life paths within a complex joint-family environment.
With ‘Valyettan’, Zee Keralam is attempting to explore a relatively underrepresented narrative space in Malayalam television, focusing on sibling dynamics rather than traditional spousal relationships. The show is expected to resonate with audiences through its emotionally driven storytelling and relatable characters.
The series will air daily at 7.30 pm from April 20. As part of the revised prime-time schedule, ‘Kudumbashree Sharada’ will move to 7 pm, while ‘Akale’ will shift to 6.30 pm, marking a broader reshuffle in the channel’s evening lineup.
