News18 Network is set to host its Chennai Town Hall on February 23, bringing together leading political figures, policymakers and cultural voices to deliberate on the theme ‘The Next Big Leap for Tamil Nadu,’ as the state prepares for the 2026 Assembly elections.
According to a press release report, the event will be held in Chennai from 10 am onwards and aims to capture the political mood and policy direction of Tamil Nadu at a crucial juncture. The town hall is expected to serve as a platform for high-impact conversations around governance, development, leadership transition and the state’s evolving political landscape.
Tamil Nadu, widely regarded as one of India’s most politically conscious and economically influential states, has long played a significant role in shaping national discourse. With elections approaching, the town hall seeks to examine shifting power structures and emerging narratives, while reflecting on the aspirations of a deeply engaged electorate.
The event will be headlined by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, who will outline his government’s vision for governance and development in a session focused on the state’s future trajectory. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin will also participate, addressing themes of leadership and generational transition while discussing emerging political narratives.
From the Opposition, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Leader of Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, will present his perspective on electoral alternatives and political change. The event will also feature key policy discussions led by Industries Minister T. R. B. Rajaa, who will speak on the state’s investment climate and economic competitiveness.
The ideological dimension of Tamil Nadu politics will be addressed by K. Annamalai, who is expected to discuss public trust and political positioning, while Information Technology Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan will focus on technology-led governance and digital public services. Additional perspectives on political change and governance will also be shared by several leaders and policy experts.
Beyond politics, the town hall will spotlight innovation and culture as key drivers of Tamil Nadu’s growth. A panel featuring industry and academic leaders, including experts from Indian Institute of Technology Madras, will explore how artificial intelligence and knowledge ecosystems are shaping future opportunities. Music composer Anirudh Ravichander is also scheduled to speak on the global influence of Tamil music and culture.
Senior editorial leaders from CNN-News18 said the initiative reflects the network’s effort to facilitate meaningful and future-focused dialogue around governance, policy and public interest. The platform aims to bring together diverse voices and viewpoints ahead of the state’s crucial electoral cycle.
With the 234-seat Assembly contest expected to be highly competitive, the town hall is positioned as a key forum to examine how Tamil Nadu’s political trajectory could influence India’s broader democratic landscape. The conversations will be broadcast live on CNN-News18 and News18 Tamil Nadu on television and digital platforms.
