As Mumbai prepares for a crucial civic election, NDTV is set to bring sharp national focus to the battle for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) with a special programme titled ‘BMC Power Play’. The 227-member BMC, India’s richest civic body, will go to the polls on January 15, 2026, an election widely seen as pivotal to the future governance and development of the country’s financial capital.
According to an NDTV press release, the outcome of the BMC elections will play a decisive role in shaping how Mumbai is governed, how its infrastructure evolves and how the city charts its long-term vision. With enormous financial resources and administrative authority at stake, the contest goes far beyond routine local politics, touching on questions of power, accountability, leadership and urban priorities in one of India’s most influential metros. NDTV’s BMC Power Play, to be held in Mumbai on January 11, aims to unpack what is truly at stake for the city and its citizens.
Rahul Kanwal, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of NDTV, said the network’s endeavour is to examine the elections with depth and perspective. “The BMC election is an important event for Mumbai. The mandate that will emerge from it will influence how the city is governed, how it grows, and how its institutions are built. NDTV’s effort with BMC Power Play is to examine the elections with rigour and perspective, with voices that shape public life, to help viewers understand what is truly at stake for the city and its people,” he said.
Echoing this sentiment, Jitendra Dixit, Executive Editor of NDTV Marathi, noted that Mumbai’s civic elections reflect the larger challenges of running a global metropolis. He said the platform would bring into focus how the city responds to pressures of growth, infrastructure demands, equity and accountability, while also examining what kind of city Mumbai is becoming.
‘BMC Power Play’ will feature a wide cross-section of political voices central to Mumbai’s political discourse, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Sanjay Raut, Shrikant Shinde, Praful Patel, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Amit Thackeray, Milind Deora, Nawab Malik, Vinod Tawde, Arvind Sawant, Shaina NC and several others. Alongside political heavyweights, the programme will also bring together eminent Mumbaikars, seasoned observers and citizen voices to capture the city’s mood, its pressures and its expectations.
Through candid and pointed conversations, NDTV aims to amplify the scale and consequence of this civic battle, placing governance, leadership and the lived realities of Mumbai at the centre of the discussion. ‘NDTV BMC Power Play’ will air across the NDTV Network on January 11, 2026.
