ZEE Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) has announced the appointment of R. Gopalan as a non-executive, non-independent director, effective from November 24, following the completion of his second term as an independent director. The company confirmed the development through a regulatory filing with the BSE and NSE, marking another strategic move in its board restructuring process.
According to the BSE filing note, Gopalan has been associated with ZEE Entertainment since November 25, 2019, when he first joined as a non-executive, independent director for a three-year term. His reappointment for a second three-year term was approved during the company’s 40th annual general meeting (AGM) held on September 30, 2022.
Over the past six years, he has also served as the Chairman of the Board, providing consistent leadership and policy guidance during a transformative phase for the company.
A seasoned bureaucrat and former IAS officer, Gopalan brings with him over four decades of experience spanning finance, commerce, public administration, and policy-making. He has held key roles in the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, where he played a pivotal part in India’s trade and economic negotiations at the World Trade Organization.
