Bharat Express has announced the return of Varun Kohli as its Director and Group CEO, marking a significant development for the channel as it looks to strengthen its presence in India’s competitive news broadcasting space.
As per a press release issued by Bharat Express, the channel highlighted Kohli’s reappointment as a reaffirmation of its commitment to visionary leadership and strategic growth. His return is expected to steer the network into its next phase of expansion while reinforcing its identity in the industry.
A seasoned media professional with over three decades of experience, Kohli had first joined Bharat Express in January 2023 as CEO and Director. During his earlier stint, he played a central role in shaping the channel’s editorial and business strategies, aligning teams, and building its operational framework. His leadership was credited with laying the foundation for the channel’s identity and driving revenue growth and audience engagement.
After leaving Bharat Express, Kohli joined Times Network as COO, where he led key operational and strategic initiatives for over a year. Over the course of his career, he has held leadership positions at some of the country’s leading media organizations including ITV Network, Deccan Chronicle Holdings, Mogae Media, Network18, Bennett Coleman & Co. Ltd., HT Media, and Amar Ujala Prakashan. He is widely respected in the industry for his ability to successfully launch and turn around media brands, as well as for building high-performance teams.
Welcoming him back, Upendrra Rai, CMD & Editor-in-Chief of Bharat Express, said, “We are delighted to welcome Varun Kohli back to Bharat Express. During his first innings, Varun played a foundational role in successfully launching the channel and positioning Bharat Express as a credible voice in Indian news media. His strategic foresight and leadership were instrumental in building the core team, and establishing a strong operational framework. With his return, we are confident that his deep industry experience and visionary approach will help us accelerate our growth and take the channel to new heights.”
Kohli’s appointment is seen as a pivotal step for Bharat Express as it sharpens its focus on sustainable growth, audience trust, and innovation in the fast-evolving media landscape.
