Netflix has expanded its cast for ‘Best of the Best’, a coming-of-age film set around competitive Bollywood dancing, with comedian Lilly Singh joining in, a PTI report from Los Angeles stated quoting entertainment news outlet Variety.
The story is penned by Hasan Minhaj and Prashanth Venkataramanujam. Minhaj will also act. It will see two childhood friends join the Bollywood dance team at their college. What may have seemed fun at the outset will prove to be immensely competitive and intense.
Minhaj will also have the company of ‘Never Have I Ever’ star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Priyanka Kedia (‘Everything To Me’).
A Netflix statement earlier in the year had stated dance teams have emerged as a space for South Asian community building and cultural connection on many college campuses and that ‘Best of the Best’ celebrates the vibrancy of Bollywood fusion dance, the growing pains of young adulthood, and the lasting power of friendship.
Lena Khan (‘Flora & Ulysses’), who directed four episodes of ‘Never Have I Ever’, will direct the film. Minhaj and Prashanth Venkataramanujamwill co-write and produce for 186K Films. From Rideback, Jonathan Eirich produces and Ryan Halprin executive produces.
According to Variety, the ensemble cast includes Chaneil Kular (‘Sex Education’), Ankur Rathee (‘Four More Shots Please’), Shreya Navile (‘Taish’), Becky Alex, Nihar Duvvuri (‘John Proctor Is The Villain’), Nico Greetham (‘The Prom’), Amryn Khurana (‘Legends’), Tanishq Joshi, Sasha Bhasin (‘XO Kitty’), Janina Gavankar (‘Borderlands’) and Saara Chaudry (‘The Muppets Mayhem’)
