The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has called on all private satellite television channels to broadcast this year’s Independence Day ceremonies with sign language interpretation, ensuring the event is accessible to citizens with hearing impairments.
In an advisory issued on August 11, 2025, the ministry highlighted that over the years, it has received multiple requests from civil society to make such national events more inclusive.
The Hon’ble President of India’s address to the nation will be aired live on August 14 at 7pm, followed by the Flag Hoisting Ceremony and the Prime Minister’s address from the Red Fort on August 15 from 6:30 a.m. across the Doordarshan network. Private satellite channels may carry these feeds free of cost.
To enable inclusivity, Doordarshan’s DD Bharati channel will provide sign language interpretation for both addresses. Broadcasters have been encouraged to relay this version by taking live signals from DD News, DD National, or DD Bharati.
“Every citizen can be part of this glorious ceremony on this important National Day,” the ministry said, urging channels to ensure differently-abled persons can fully participate in the celebrations.
