One of Indian cinema’s most iconic films, ‘Sholay’, is set to make headlines once again — this time on the global stage. The cult classic, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Jaya Bhaduri, and Sanjeev Kumar, will have the world premiere of its restored version in Bologna, Italy, bringing the magic of Ramgarh to international audiences like never before.
According to an IANS report, the restored cut of ‘Sholay’ will be showcased at the prestigious Il Cinema Ritrovato festival — a celebration of classic and restored films from around the world.
The event, scheduled to take place between June 22 and June 30, will feature ‘Sholay’ among its most anticipated highlights, presenting it in a new light for cinephiles, restoration experts, and international film lovers.
Directed by Ramesh Sippy and originally released in 1975, ‘Sholay’ has long been regarded as a benchmark in Indian cinema a film that redefined action, storytelling, and character arcs for generations. The film’s unforgettable dialogues, legendary villain Gabbar Singh, and the gripping friendship between Jai and Veeru, have all become woven into the cultural fabric of the country.
The restored version has been meticulously remastered to bring back its original grandeur, making it suitable for big-screen viewing on global platforms. As per the report, this restoration effort aims to preserve the film’s visual and audio fidelity, giving audiences the chance to experience Sholay as it was meant to be seen — vivid, detailed, and cinematic.
From its larger-than-life characters to the stirring background score, every element of ‘Sholay’ will be revived in its new avatar, reaffirming why the film remains such an enduring part of India’s cinematic legacy. The Italian premiere will serve as a tribute to Indian storytelling, and a proud moment for fans and the film fraternity alike.
