The Premier League, England’s iconic football league, is hunting around for new media rights partners in India following Star India’s decision to step back from renewing its longstanding broadcast deal, The Economic Times has reported.
Star India, which has held the league’s broadcast rights for over 20 years via its Star Sports network and Disney+ Hotstar platform, will see its current agreement end with the 2024-25 season.
The Premier League has reached out to multiple companies, including Sony Pictures Networks India, Warner Bros. Discovery’s Eurosport and Dream Sports’ FanCode, inviting them to submit their bids, the ET report stated yesterday.
This proactive move underscores the league’s openness to selling packages in various formats, potentially catering to different viewership preferences across platforms.
