A new trailer for the much-anticipated streaming series ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’, starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, was released on Tuesday, providing a closer look at the dynamic between the lead characters, who are not only romantic partners but also fellow agents.
The trailer opens with a poignant scene of Samantha’s character playing music for her daughter and hiding her in a trunk to ensure her safety. This moment is quickly juxtaposed with intense action as Samantha’s character—a former actress turned spy—battles unidentified assailants invading her home.
As the narrative unfolds, it is revealed that Varun’s character, a stunt artist, trained Samantha’s character in the art of espionage. Tensions escalate when Varun visits Samantha, leading to a confrontation where she reveals that he is the father of her daughter.
The trailer is filled with high-octane action sequences, featuring explosions, hand-to-hand combat, and an array of weaponry, setting the tone for a thrilling series.
Directed by the acclaimed duo Raj & DK (Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK), ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’ is written by Sita R. Menon along with Raj & DK. The cast also includes Kay Kay Menon, Simran, Saqib Saleem, Sikandar Kher, Soham Majumdar, Shivankit Parihar, and Kashvi Majmundar.
As the Indian counterpart to the global Citadel series—originally featuring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden—Honey Bunny aims to carve out its own identity. Earlier, Samantha emphasized that the series moves away from gimmicky, high-tech gadgetry, instead focusing on relatable characters placed in extraordinary situations. “That drew me in immediately. I also believe it was a brilliant move to set the show in the nineties,” she shared.
Produced by D2R Films and Amazon MGM Studios, and executive produced by the Russo Brothers’ AGBO, ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’ is set to premiere on Prime Video on November 7.
