Google is set to roll out its AI Overviews feature in India and five other countries—United Kingdom, Japan, Indonesia, Mexico, and Brazil—over the next several weeks. Originally launched in May in the U.S., AI Overviews aim to help users quickly discover and understand information on the web.
Hema Budaraju, Senior Director of Product Management for Search, shared in a blog post that this expansion follows extensive testing and positive feedback globally, including from Search Labs experiments. In India, AI Overviews will be available in both English and Hindi, along with features like the language toggle button and text-to-speech for ease of access, The Economic Times reported.
“People in India appreciated the bilingual toggle and text-to-speech capabilities during our Search Labs trials,” Budaraju noted. The new feature will enhance the search experience for complex queries and provide more opportunities for content discovery from publishers and creators.
The rollout will happen gradually, and Google has seen users in India engaging more frequently with AI Overviews, especially through the listen function. The update also includes new ways to access relevant websites, with a right-hand link display for desktop and mobile users.
