Instant messaging app Snapchat has introduced new safety features aimed at protecting teenagers from online harms.
These enhancements, which include improved blocking capabilities, simplified location-sharing, enhanced friending protections, and expanded in-chat warnings, are designed to make it more difficult for strangers to contact users, according to Uthara Ganesh, Head of Public Policy-South Asia at Snap Inc., The Economic Times reported.
Snapchat, launched in 2019, now boasts over 200 million users in India. While the company has not disclosed how many of these users are teenagers, it stated that it reaches more than 75 percent of 13-34-year-olds in over 20 countries, the ET report added.
The platform already allows users to block contacts if they no longer wish to communicate with them. However, in cases where “bad actors” create new accounts to continue harassment, Snapchat is enhancing its blocking tools.
