Studio9 has announced the launch of ‘This Is Me’, a groundbreaking English-language docu-series aimed at shedding light on the diverse facets of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Scheduled to premiere on News9 Plus to coincide with Pride Month 2024, the series aims to educate and engage viewers on the challenges and triumphs experienced by LGBTQIA+ individuals.
‘This Is Me’ offers a comprehensive exploration of the LGBTQIA+ community through scientific, cultural, and historical lenses, primarily focusing on India while also addressing global perspectives. The series spans five episodes, each delving into crucial themes such as gender identity, sexual orientation, societal challenges, legalities, and personal narratives of resilience.
The series features prominent LGBTQIA+ figures including India’s first transgender judge, Joyita Mondal, and celebrity hair designer Sylvie Rodgers. These individuals share personal stories alongside contributions from legal experts like Supreme Court advocate Sanjay K. Chadha, and medical professionals such as cosmetic surgeon Dr. Rajat Gupta, and psychologist Dr. Jayanti Dutta. Their insights enrich the narrative, providing context and depth to the issues explored.
Arpita Chatterjee, director and founder of Studio9, described ‘This Is Me’ as her directorial debut and a celebration of human resilience against societal norms. The series aims to evoke empathy and understanding, showcasing the bravery and perseverance of LGBTQIA+ individuals in the face of adversity.
To celebrate the premiere of ‘This Is Me’, Studio9 will host a launch event featuring prominent members of the LGBTQIA+ community. The event aims to celebrate diversity and promote acceptance through an evening of cultural appreciation.
