HBO has officially renewed the hit series ‘House of the Dragon’ for a third season, just days before the premiere of its highly anticipated second season on June 17, PTI reported from Los Angeles.
Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming and Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, expressed her excitement, “We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three.”
‘House of the Dragon,’ a prequel to the epic fantasy drama ‘Game of Thrones,’ first premiered on HBO in August 2022. The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s book ‘Fire & Blood,’ chronicling the history of House Targaryen 200 years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones.’ The show delves into the intricate dynamics of ambition, loyalty, and betrayal as key figures vie for control over the Seven Kingdoms.
Co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, who also serves as the showrunner, the series features executive producers Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, and Vince Gerardis.
The second season stars Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans. Returning cast members include Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham. New additions to the cast for the upcoming season are Abubakar Salim, Gayle Rankin, Freddie Fox, Simon Russell Beale, Clinton Liberty, Jamie Kenna, Kieran Bew, Tom Bennett, Tom Taylor, and Vincent Regan.
With its renewal for a third season, ‘House of the Dragon’ continues to captivate audiences with its tale of dragons, dynasties, and the fierce battle for power in the Seven Kingdoms.
