In a groundbreaking move, national award-winning director Srijit Mukherji is set to resurrect Bengal’s legendary matinee idol, Uttam Kumar, over four decades after his demise, through the innovative use of visual effects (VFX) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The film titled ‘Oti Uttam’ will see Anindya Sengupta, Roshni Bhattacharya, and Gourab Chatterjee in prominent roles, alongside the AI-generated images of Uttam Kumar derived from existing footage of his films. These AI-generated images will be seamlessly integrated into the narrative, enabling Uttam Kumar to interact with other characters in the movie, PTI reported from Kolkata.
Directed as a tribute to the iconic actor, affectionately known as Mahanayak by millions of fans, ‘Oti Uttam’ marks Mukherji’s homage to Uttam Kumar’s enduring legacy in Bengali cinema.
Mukherji, renowned for his directorial prowess demonstrated in films like ‘Autograph’, aims to pay homage to the timeless charm and charisma of the revered actor through this innovative cinematic endeavour.
The decision to bring Uttam Kumar back to the silver screen through VFX and AI technology underscores the indelible impact and reverence that the actor continues to command, even decades after his passing. By seamlessly blending the past with the present, “Oti Uttam” promises to evoke nostalgia among audiences while also introducing the legendary actor to a new generation of cinema enthusiasts.
