The 25th edition of CABLE TV SHOW 2024 in Kolkata, inaugurated on January 9 at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan (Milan Mela), witnessed a significant turnout and drew attention from industry leaders, government officials, and stakeholders.
Minister Sujit Bose from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, Govt. of West Bengal, visited the event on January 10, addressing cable operators and acknowledging the challenges faced by the industry.
According to the press release, Minister Sujit Bose assured cable operators that the Mamata Banerjee-led government would address the needs and concerns of the cable industry. Emphasizing the importance of local cable operators, he stated that technological advancements would be balanced with the interests of operators to ensure smooth operations.
In response to concerns raised by cable operators fearing a potential loss of business and livelihood due to technological advancements, Bose highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting the cable industry. Approximately 1.5 million people in West Bengal, directly and indirectly, rely on the cable industry for their livelihoods.
The Indian broadcast and cable TV market, valued at USD 13.61 billion in 2023, is projected to register a 7.85 percent annual growth rate until 2029. The Cable TV Show 2024, celebrating its 25th year, is expected to be the largest in its history, featuring 92 stalls, 85 pavilions, and over 80 participants.
Kolkata-based Cable TV Equipments Traders & Manufacturers Association (CTMA) organized the three-day B2B mega event, which is open to the public. CTMA has been the voice of the cable television sector in the eastern region for the past 30 years, and with the government working towards finalizing the Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill, 2023, CTMA aims to continue advocating for the cable television network in India.
Over 10,000 cable operators, MSOs, representatives, traders, manufacturers, channel partners, distributors, broadcasters, and Multi-System Operators (MSOs) from India and overseas are expected to visit the CABLE TV SHOW 2024. With more than 1500 MSOs in India, the cable television sector in West Bengal serves nearly 10 million cable homes, providing television software and internet services across urban and rural areas.
