Actor Christopher Chung, known for his role in the spy series ‘Slow Horses’, has joined the cast of ‘Ascension’, an upcoming series for Apple TV. The series is being developed by filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron.
According to a PTI report today, Chung will join Amanda Plummer and T’Nia Miller as a series regular. The roles of the three actors have not yet been revealed. Caitríona Balfe will play the lead role, while Bill Nighy is also part of the cast.
‘Ascension’ is inspired by Adam Nevill’s novel ‘Last Days’. The story follows Rose, played by Balfe, a recently divorced mother and documentary filmmaker who begins investigating a mysterious 20th-century cult called the Church of Ascension.
During her investigation, Rose finds comfort in the cult’s teachings but later discovers something more disturbing beneath them. The series explores themes of good and evil, family and the lengths people may go to protect their loved ones.
Alfonso Cuarón is co-writing the series with Carlos Cuarón, Natalie Erika James and Christian White. James and White will serve as co-showrunners, while James will also be the lead director.
The series is produced by Anonymous Content, with Apple Studios serving as the studio. Alfonso Cuaron, Carlos Cuaron and other members of the production team will serve as executive producers.
