JioStar has unveiled ‘The Billion Emotions Engine: Home of Unscripted’, a coffee table book highlighting the reach, audience engagement and industry impact of its Hindi unscripted entertainment portfolio. Launched at FICCI FRAMES 2026, the book brings together audience data, brand partnerships and stories from the talent and production houses behind some of India’s most popular reality shows.
Over the past year, JioStar’s Hindi unscripted shows reached one billion people, equivalent to roughly two-thirds of India’s population, and recorded 460 billion minutes of watch time. According to the company, two-thirds of the watch time came from younger audiences. The previous seasons of its shows also collectively generated more than 27 billion social media views.
The portfolio includes established franchises such as ‘Bigg Boss’, ‘Laughter Chefs’ ‘Unlimited Entertainment’, ‘Roadies’, ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’, ‘Splitsvilla’, ‘Hustle’ and ‘Koffee With Karan’. The book examines how these shows have built long-term audience connections while creating opportunities for talent, production houses and advertisers.
“Behind every unscripted moment is a person who took a chance: a contestant stepping into the spotlight, a maker backing a bold idea, a brand trusting a new format, a viewer who showed up curious and kept returning,” said Alok Jain, Head – Hindi & English Entertainment Business (Streaming, TV & Studios), JioStar.
“At JioStar, our promise to be Always On Unscripted is about being there for those moments every single day, with franchises that keep growing alongside the people who love them,” Jain added, describing the book as a tribute to the talent, makers, brands and audiences that have helped build the portfolio.
JioStar’s unscripted portfolio comprises 70 percent homegrown originals and 30 percent global intellectual property, according to the company. International formats such as ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ have been adapted to Indian audiences, while long-running franchises continue to maintain their presence across television and streaming.
‘Bigg Boss’ has completed two decades, ‘Koffee With Karan’ has entertained audiences for more than 20 years, ‘Roadies’ is in its 21st season, and ‘Splitsvilla’ has concluded its 16th season.
Alongside these established properties, newer formats are experimenting with production scale and storytelling. The company cited ‘The 50’, which brought together 50 celebrities for 27 days of live production. The show used more than 115 cameras across a two-storey set and featured a format without a celebrity host.
The portfolio has also helped introduce emerging talent to mainstream audiences. Over five seasons, ‘Hustle’ has brought 96 rappers into the mainstream, according to JioStar. The company noted that several participants from its shows have returned as hosts, judges and squad bosses, creating opportunities for new generations of talent.
JioStar said more than 1,000 brands across sectors, including automobiles, fast-moving consumer goods, consumer electronics, fashion and home products, have associated with its unscripted portfolio.
The book highlights how these partnerships have developed over multiple seasons. Hero MotoCorp’s Karizma was the first partner of ‘Roadies’ and later returned as the title sponsor for its 20th season. Nivea expanded its association from ‘Dhamaal With Pati Patni Aur Panga to Laughter Chefs’ Season 3, while Jaquar’s presence on ‘Koffee With Karan’ grew from lighting to bath products.
Fashion brand NEWME also introduced a ‘Shop The Look’ feature on the JioHotstar app for ‘Splitsvilla’, allowing viewers to purchase styles featured on the show.
According to JioStar, these partnerships reflect the growing role of unscripted entertainment in connecting brands with audiences through long-running associations and interactive experiences.
‘The Billion Emotions Engine: Home of Unscripted’ also highlights JioStar’s strategy of offering unscripted content throughout the year, with a show-a-day ecosystem operating 365 days annually. The approach aims to maintain audience engagement across television, streaming and social media while providing advertisers with multiple opportunities to connect with viewers.
The company’s current festive-season line-up includes ‘Bigg Boss’, ‘Dhamaal With Pati Patni Aur Panga’, ‘Koffee With Karan’ and ‘MTV Roadies 21: Rebirth’.
JioStar said the book recognises the collective contribution of performers, production houses, brand partners and audiences to the growth of India’s unscripted entertainment ecosystem. It also reflects the company’s ambition to expand the reach of Indian entertainment formats and stories to wider audiences.
The book is available to view and download at JioStar’s Unscripted website.
