Netflix and Bengali-first streaming platform and content studio hoichoi have announced a content partnership that will bring hoichoi’s existing shows and all its new series premiering over the next two years to Netflix in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, exclusively on the streaming service.
Announced yesterday, the pact will also see the two platforms collaborate on original series adapting select hoichoi stories, with the aim of taking Bengali storytelling to wider audiences across India, a joint statement from the two companies stated.
As part of the partnership, Netflix will feature a curated collection of 14 existing hoichoi titles spanning crime thrillers, detective mysteries, folklore horror, social dramas, courtroom stories and romance.
The lineup includes ‘Madam Inspector‘, ‘Sampurna‘, ‘Lajja‘, ‘Eken Sirji‘, ‘Anjaan Saaye‘, ‘The Curse of Parnashavari‘, ‘Bloodlines‘, ‘The Adventures of Daadi & Jagga‘, ‘Raat Abhi Baaki Hain‘, ‘Achinta: Trial By Law‘, ‘Shaadi Ka Siyappa‘, ‘Queens‘, ‘Parineeta: A Love Story‘ and ‘Mahanagar‘.
The agreement will extend to upcoming releases, with new hoichoi series set to arrive on Netflix in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu alongside their Bengali debut on hoichoi.
The first title under this arrangement is ‘The Cursed Temple of Kauriburi‘, a folklore horror series starring Jeetu Kamal, Solanki Roy and Paoli Dam.
The series is scheduled to premiere on November 6, with more titles expected to follow in the coming months.
Beyond making existing and upcoming content available in multiple languages, Netflix and hoichoi will work together on original series produced by Hoichoi Studios.
The projects will reimagine selected hoichoi stories, bringing fresh creative voices and perspectives to their adaptations. The companies said further details of these collaborations would be announced in due course.
The partnership marks an expansion of Netflix’s licensed-content strategy, complementing its original productions with stories from third-party studios and networks.
The streaming platform said its global audience of nearly one billion people makes it a strong partner for studios, networks and creators, while the collaboration will give established hoichoi favourites access to new viewers and create opportunities to develop original adaptations.
By combining a catalogue of existing Bengali-language shows with a pipeline of new releases and adaptations, the pact seeks to broaden the reach of hoichoi’s stories beyond their original language audience.
