Apple Original Films has released the trailer for its upcoming film ‘Tenzing’, directed by Jennifer Peedom. The film stars Genden Phuntsok as Tenzing Norgay, along with Tom Hiddleston, Willem Dafoe, Caitríona Balfe, Thinley Lhamo and Tenzin Dalha.

According to an Apple TV press release yesterday, ‘Tenzing’ tells the story of legendary Himalayan climber Tenzing Norgay and his journey to the top of Mount Everest. He climbed the mountain with New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary, played by Tom Hiddleston.

The story also focuses on Tenzing’s wife Dawa, played by Thinley Lhamo, and expedition secretary Jill Henderson, played by Caitríona Balfe. Together, they help Tenzing secure a place on the British climbing team led by Colonel John Hunt, played by Willem Dafoe.

The film explores the differences in background, class and ambitions among the people involved in the Everest expedition. It also highlights Tenzing’s spiritual connection with Chomolungma, the name used for Mount Everest, which he considers sacred.

‘Tenzing’ is directed by Jennifer Peedom and written by Luke Davies, with the story by Peedom and Davies. The film is produced by Peedom, Davies, Desray Armstrong, Liz Watts, Iain Canning and Emile Sherman, with Norbu Tenzing, Simon Gillis and David Michôd serving as executive producers.‘Tenzing’ will release in select theatres on October 9 . The film will then premiere globally on Apple TV on October 16.
