Netflix has officially started production on its upcoming Spanish original series ‘Queenpin’, a crime drama inspired by the true story of the woman behind Spain’s largest cocaine seizure in the 1990s.
According to a Netflix press release,the eight episode series is created by Daniel Ecija and is based on the novel ‘Queenpin’ by Ulises Bertolo.
It stars Elena Rivera, Maxi Iglesias, Laura Weissmahr and Lola Rodríguez in lead roles. Filming is taking place in Madrid, Galicia and Porto (Portugal).
The story follows Diana García, a young woman who escapes a troubled past and moves to Madrid. Along with her friends Penelope and Maricarmen, she rises to lead one of Spain’s most powerful drug cartels during the 1990s.
As her influence grows, she faces a determined detective whose investigation changes both of their lives.The series is produced by Good Mood (Mediawan) for Netflix. Daniel Ecija has also co written the screenplay and serves as executive producer. The show will be directed by Esteban Crespo and Oskar Santos.
