Netflix India has unveiled the much-awaited trailer of ‘The Archies’ a live-action musical directed by Zoya Akhtar and based on the beloved American comics of the same name.
The 2-minute 49-second trailer takes the audience on a nostalgic journey to the whimsical world of the 1960s in the fictional town of Riverdale, India.
Introducing seven iconic characters from the Archie comics—Archie (Agastya Nanda), Betty (Khushi Kapoor), Veronica (Suhana Khan), Jughead (Mihir Ahuja), Reggie (Vedang Raina), Ethel (Dot) and Dilton (Yuvraj Menda)—the film promises to capture the innocence of teenage life and the simplicity of a bygone era, a PTI report stated.
Akhtar, known for her distinctive storytelling, expressed her excitement about bringing Archie Comics to a new generation. Having spent much of her childhood immersed in the world of Archie, she aimed to create a wholesome adaptation that resonates with the original comic’s charm.
‘The Archies’, written by Reema Kagti, Akhtar and Ayesha Devitre, is set to be clean and fresh young adult content, offering a nostalgic trip to the simplicity of a time when less was more.
The trailer features original songs, ‘Sunoh’ and ‘Va Va Voom’, and concludes with a poignant message: “You are never too young to change the world.” The adaptation reflects the timeless charm and universal theme of friendship from the Archie comics, weaving it into the rich cultural tapestry of India.
Monika Shergill, Vice President for Content at Netflix India, commended the collaboration, stating, “‘The Archies’ is truly a family entertainer with a touch of delicious nostalgia.”
