ZEE5 has announced the premiere of its upcoming original docuseries ‘Lawrence of Punjab, a crime-led narrative that explores the making of a criminal identity, with the series set to release on April 27.

According to an ANI report, the platform also unveiled the trailer of the show, offering a glimpse into a story that goes beyond a single individual to examine the cultural, social, and systemic factors that contribute to the rise of such identities. Produced by Riverland Entertainment and directed by Raghav Darr, the series positions itself as a layered exploration rather than a conventional crime retelling.

The docuseries uses Lawrence Bishnoi as a key case study, tracing his journey through elements such as student politics, music, ideology, and media amplification. At its core, the narrative looks at how aspiration, power, and perception intersect to shape what it describes as a new-age digital syndicate, while also reflecting on the consequences of such trajectories.

The trailer, shared by ZEE5 on its social media platforms, hints at a storytelling approach that blends real events with broader socio-cultural commentary. Instead of focusing solely on incidents, the series attempts to contextualise the environment and influences that contribute to the formation of such figures.

Director Raghav Darr said the intent behind ‘Lawrence of Punjab’ was to move beyond the surface of crime and understand the deeper reasons behind the emergence of such identities, including the systems and surroundings that shape them. He added that the series also reflects on the impact these journeys leave behind.

Producer Raghav Khanna of Riverland Entertainment noted that while Punjab is known for its resilience and cultural richness, the series examines a more recent chapter shaped by real events and multiple perspectives, approaching the subject with balance and sensitivity.

With its focus on context-driven storytelling, ‘Lawrence of Punjab’ aims to offer viewers a more nuanced understanding of crime and its roots when it begins streaming later this month.
