Zee TV has unveiled its upcoming family drama ‘Lakshmi Niwas’, a show rooted in the emotional realities of middle-class Indian joint families, where the dreams of owning a home and marrying daughters with dignity often define a lifetime of struggle and sacrifice.
Staying aligned with the channel’s philosophy of ‘Aapka Apna Zee’, the new offering promises a heartfelt narrative that reflects everyday emotions, unspoken compromises, and evolving aspirations within Indian households.
At its core, ‘Lakshmi Niwas’ tells the story of Lakshmi and Srinivas, a couple who have spent 35 years of their lives in a rented house, always prioritising their family over personal ambitions. It is only after Srinivas retires that they gather the courage to fulfil their long-cherished dreams—building a home of their own and settling their daughters’ futures. Their journey, however, is anything but simple, as they navigate difficult choices, emotional conflicts, and the fragile balance between tradition and change.
Manasi Joshi Roy essays the role of Lakshmi, the emotional pillar of the family and a devoted mother of six. Sharing her thoughts on the show, she said the story resonated with her instantly as it mirrors the lives of countless Indian women who silently shoulder responsibilities and hold families together with strength and patience. She added that Lakshmi is deeply rooted in values, resilient, and emotionally grounded, yet evolves with time, making the character both real and relatable.
Veteran actor Rajendra Chawla plays Srinivas, the head of the joint family, a man rich not in wealth but in values, love, and goodwill. Speaking about his character, Chawla said Srinivas’s dream of building a home goes beyond bricks and walls, symbolising security, belonging, and togetherness. He noted that the honesty of the story reflects the everyday struggles and sacrifices of middle-class fathers, making it emotionally resonant across generations.
The show features a strong ensemble cast, including Gashmeer Mahajani, Akshita Mudgal, Mansi Srivastava, Sulakshana Khatri, and others, who add depth and nuance to the layered family narrative.
Producer Rashmi Sharma of Rashmi Sharma Telefilms Private Limited said ‘Lakshmi Niwas’ is about dreams that see delay but never fade. She emphasised that the show reflects the reality of middle-class families who sacrifice endlessly yet continue to hope, and added that Zee TV was the ideal partner to bring this honest and emotional story to audiences.
Commenting on the launch, Mangesh Kulkarni, Chief Channel Officer, Zee TV, said the show reinforces the channel’s commitment to stories deeply rooted in Indian family values and lived realities. He noted that ‘Lakshmi Niwas’ celebrates emotional bonds and togetherness while addressing changing family dynamics, and expressed confidence that the show will connect strongly with viewers and become a familiar presence in their daily lives.
