YouTube has launched a new personalised ‘Recap’ experience for users in India, offering a detailed snapshot of their viewing habits over the past year.
The feature, which begins rolling out this week, is available directly on the platform’s homepage as well as in the ‘You’ tab on both mobile and desktop.
Recap presents users with up to 12 customised cards showcasing their most-watched channels, top interests, and evolving viewing patterns. It also dives into music preferences, highlighting favourite artists, songs, genres and podcasts, with expanded insights available on the YouTube Music app.
According to YouTube, the feature is the result of extensive user research, including nine rounds of testing and more than 50 concept explorations, all aimed at understanding how viewers discover and engage with content. One of the more engaging elements of Recap is its personality profiling, which categorises users based on their viewing behaviour.
Popular personas include the ‘Sunshiner’, “
‘Wonder Seeker’ and ‘Connector’, while more uncommon types such as the ‘Philosopher’ and ‘Dreamer’ also appear based on niche interests.
By spotlighting favourite moments, creators and content journeys, YouTube aims to give users a reflective and shareable year-end experience. The cards can be saved and shared across social platforms, making Recap both a personalised summary and a conversation starter for viewers across India.
