Warner Music Group is expanding its technology operations in India with a new international technology hub in Bengaluru. The facility is scheduled to officially open next month.
According to a Warner Music Group announcement,the new hub will focus on technology development for WMG’s global music business. Its work will include music distribution, data infrastructure, audience and marketing data products, as well as engineering projects using artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies.
Mahesh Rao, Director of Software Engineering and Site Lead for India at WMG, is leading the expansion. He will oversee the company’s engineering strategy, team structure, budgets and operations in India. Rao previously worked at Walmart Global Tech, where he led software development.
WMG said the Bengaluru team has already been building its technology capabilities over the past year. The company is now hiring for several technology roles as it prepares to open the facility.
Rao said Bengaluru has a strong pool of technology talent and that the company aims to build a major music technology team in the city.
WMG Chief Technology Officer Leho Nigul said Bengaluru will play an important role in the company’s global engineering strategy. The company plans to invest in local leadership and modern technology to attract engineers working on complex systems involving music and AI.
Jay Mehta, Managing Director of Warner Music India, said the company has been committed to India since establishing its Mumbai headquarters six years ago. He added that India offers strong opportunities because of its creative ecosystem and technology talent.
The Bengaluru hub will strengthen WMG’s technology capabilities in India and support its global music operations.
