Ultra Play OTT has announced ‘David Dhawan’s No.1 Comedy Universe,’ a special 15-day film festival celebrating the work of one of Bollywood’s most successful commercial filmmakers. The curated showcase brings together more than 25 films from David Dhawan’s extensive catalogue, giving audiences an opportunity to revisit some of Hindi cinema’s most loved comedy entertainers.
According to an Ultra Play OTT press release, the festival has been launched ahead of the release of David Dhawan’s upcoming film ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’. The initiative pays tribute to the filmmaker’s contribution to mainstream Hindi cinema, particularly his iconic collaborations with actors such as Govinda and Salman Khan, which defined Bollywood comedy through the 1990s and early 2000s.
An FTII graduate with a career spanning over four decades, David Dhawan became synonymous with family entertainers packed with humour, music, romance, and mass appeal. His films resonated with audiences across generations and helped shape an era of commercial cinema that continues to enjoy immense popularity even today.
The festival lineup includes some of Dhawan’s most celebrated films, including ‘Coolie No. 1,’ ‘Hero No. 1’, ‘Jodi No. 1’, ‘Saajan Chale Sasural’, ‘Aankhen’, ‘Raja Babu’, ‘Haseena Maan Jaayegi’, and ‘Shola Aur Shabnam’. These titles not only emerged as major box-office successes but also cemented the legendary on-screen partnership between David Dhawan and Govinda, a combination that remains one of Bollywood’s most memorable creative collaborations.
In addition to these cult favourites, viewers will also be able to stream films such as ‘Biwi No. 1’, ‘Shaadi No. 1’, ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, ‘Ek Aur Ek Gyarah’, ‘Yeh Hai Jalwa’, ‘Chor Machaaye Shor’, ‘Rascals’, ‘Swarg’, ‘Andaz’, ‘Loafer’, ‘Aag Ka Gola’, ‘Aandhiyan’, ‘Banarasi Babu’, and ‘Eena Meena Deeka’. The collection showcases the filmmaker’s ability to blend comedy with action, drama, romance, and family-centric storytelling.
Commenting on the initiative, Sushilkumar Agrawal, Founder and CEO of Ultra Media & Entertainment Group, said Dhawan’s films represent a unique period in Hindi cinema and continue to entertain audiences decades after their release. He noted that the film festival aims to preserve that legacy while making the director’s work accessible to a wider audience.
Rajat Agrawal, COO and Director of Ultra Media & Entertainment Group, added that younger viewers are actively exploring classic Bollywood content on digital platforms, and many of these films continue to feel fresh because of their humour, music, and universal appeal.
