Ultra Play OTT is celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of legendary actor Raaj Kumar with a special film festival throughout October, bringing together some of his most memorable performances and iconic films for audiences across generations.
According to a press release from the streamer yesterday, the Raaj Kumar Centenary Festival will feature a curated selection of films spanning different phases of the actor’s career, offering viewers an opportunity to revisit his distinctive screen presence, dialogue delivery and memorable characters.
Born Kulbhushan Pandit on October 8, 1926, Raaj Kumar built a career spanning more than four decades before his death in July 1996.
Known for his commanding screen presence and distinctive voice, Kumar developed a unique style that became an integral part of his screen identity. His performances in films such as ‘Mother India’ (1957), ‘Dil Ek Mandir’, ‘Waqt’ (1965), ‘36 Ghante’ (1974), ‘Karmayogi’ (
The festival brings together these titles to showcase the range of his career, from emotionally layered performances to larger-than-life and confrontational characters.
His distinctive dialogue delivery became particularly synonymous with his later screen persona, with several of his lines continuing to be remembered decades after their release.
One of his most recognised moments came in ‘Waqt’, where his character delivers the iconic line: “Chinoy Seth, jin ke ghar sheeshe ke hote hain, woh doosron par patthar nahin phenka karte.”
His portrayal in ‘Saudagar’, particularly his repeated use of ‘Jaani’, further cemented a screen identity that became part of popular culture.
