Twitter is considering taking legal action against Meta, the company behind the fast-growing rival app Threads. Threads, which was recently launched, bears similarities to Twitter and has been promoted by Meta as a “friendly” alternative.
However, Twitter’s Elon Musk expressed concerns about cheating in competition. In response, Meta denied allegations that former Twitter employees assisted in creating Threads. Over 30 million people have already signed up for the new app, according to Meta, Reuters reported.
The design and features of Threads closely resemble those of Twitter. Twitter’s attorney sent a letter to Meta, accusing them of unlawfully using Twitter’s trade secrets and intellectual property to develop Threads.
The letter demanded that Meta cease using such information immediately. Both Meta and Twitter have been contacted for comment. Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, the CEOs of Twitter and Meta respectively, have acknowledged the rivalry surrounding Threads.
