Truecaller, the globally renowned communications and caller ID platform, has teamed up with the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeIT) of the Karnataka Government to address the escalating concerns of cybercrime, impersonation, and fraud.
The collaboration unveiled on Safer Internet Day in the presence of Priyank Kharge, Minister for Information Technology & Biotechnology, as well as Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, aims to heighten awareness and build citizens’ capabilities to navigate the internet securely, ANI reported.
As part of this strategic partnership, Truecaller will initiate various programs to educate and empower citizens across the state, fostering their ability to safeguard themselves from online threats, particularly phone-based frauds and scams.
Minister Priyank Kharge emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritizing citizens’ safety in the digital realm. With the rapid growth of cybercrimes and fraud in digital communication, the collaboration aligns with the government’s proactive steps to raise awareness and promote safety in digital communications. Recognizing Bengaluru as a tech hub synonymous with innovation, the Minister expressed pride in adopting a collaborative approach to enhance citizens’ online safety.
Rishit Jhunjhunwala, Chief Product Officer and Managing Director of Truecaller India highlighted the importance of collaboration in enhancing digital safety. He shared Truecaller’s delight in working with the Karnataka Government to empower citizens to make the most of digital opportunities while staying one step ahead of fraudsters. Jhunjhunwala also mentioned the success of Truecaller’s government directory services feature, which has assisted over 31.2 million users in identifying verified calls and accessing essential government numbers.
Truecaller’s commitment to cyber safety is evident in its past initiatives, having conducted cyber safety training for over 1.6 million citizens in collaboration with various law enforcement agencies and state governments across India. This collaboration with the Karnataka Government underscores Truecaller’s ongoing efforts to improve fraud prevention and contribute to citizens’ digital safety.
