Fashionistas, mark your calendars! Nearly two decades after Miranda Priestly walked into our lives in stilettos and silence, ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ is officially making a stylish comeback to the big screen. The much-awaited sequel is slated for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026, sending a wave of excitement across fans of the cult classic.
According to a PTI report, Disney has confirmed that the new film will return audiences to the glossy yet ruthless world of high fashion, with original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna penning the sequel. While details remain under wraps, early speculation suggests the story may follow Miranda navigating the challenges of a rapidly changing fashion media industry, possibly clashing with Emily, now a rising figure in luxury branding.
The original 2006 film, based on Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling novel, starred Meryl Streep in an Oscar-nominated turn as Miranda Priestly—the icy editor-in-chief of a top fashion magazine—and Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, the ambitious assistant who finds herself at the mercy of couture and cruel deadlines. Emily Blunt’s portrayal of Miranda’s snarky senior assistant also became a breakout moment in her career.
While official casting for the sequel is yet to be confirmed, fans are hopeful for the return of Streep, Hathaway, and Blunt, whose performances have since become iconic pop culture staples. The return of Brosh McKenna to the writing desk has only fuelled anticipation, with audiences expecting the same sharp wit, biting commentary, and emotional undercurrents that made the original a classic.
With fashion, power dynamics, and personal reinvention still relevant themes in today’s world, the sequel to ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ promises not just a nostalgic return but a fresh take on an industry constantly in flux.
