Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali known for blending visual grandeur with intense emotions, continues to captivate audiences with his distinctive storytelling style that celebrates love, drama and larger-than-life characters.
Ahead of his birthday on February 24, Tata Play Binge has curated a special showcase of some of his most memorable works and collaborations, offering viewers an opportunity to revisit the filmmaker’s celebrated cinematic universe.
According to a press release from Tata Play, the curated collection brings together Bhansali’s iconic films and productions across OTT platforms through a single subscription model, allowing audiences to explore his signature storytelling marked by operatic narratives, powerful performances and unforgettable music.
Among the highlights is ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’, Bhansali’s contemporary interpretation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Set in a world of rival clans, the film features Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, portraying an intense love story marked by passion, conflict and striking visual spectacle. The film is widely recognised for its vibrant visuals, elaborate song sequences and emotionally charged performances.
The collection also includes ‘Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi’, written and produced under Bhansali’s banner. Unlike his grand romantic dramas, this slice-of-life romantic comedy explores late-blooming love between two middle-aged Parsis, played by Farah Khan and Boman Irani, offering a gentle and humorous take on relationships rooted in everyday life.
Another prominent feature of the showcase is ‘Devdas’, Bhansali’s acclaimed adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic novel. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Madhuri Dixit, the film presents a tragic tale of love, ego and societal pressures, brought alive through lavish sets, powerful dialogues and memorable music. The film remains one of Bhansali’s most celebrated works for its visual richness and emotional depth.
The selection further features ‘Gabbar Is Back’, a vigilante drama produced by Bhansali and starring Akshay Kumar. The film explores themes of systemic corruption and justice, delivering a socially relevant narrative wrapped in high-impact action and dramatic storytelling.
Completing the lineup is ‘Bajirao Mastani’, a historical romance set against 18th-century Maratha politics. Featuring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra, the film portrays the complex relationship between Peshwa Bajirao, his wife Kashibai and warrior princess Mastani. Known for its grand battle sequences, intricate costumes and sweeping music, the film showcases Bhansali’s mastery in crafting visually immersive period dramas.
Through this specially curated showcase, Tata Play Binge aims to celebrate Bhansali’s cinematic legacy and provide audiences with easy access to his films, reinforcing his reputation as a filmmaker who seamlessly combines scale, emotion and storytelling in contemporary Indian cinema.
