Prime Video has announced that its latest Hindi original film, ‘Subedaar’, has emerged as the most-watched Indian Original movie on the platform during its opening weekend. The action drama premiered worldwide on March 5 and quickly climbed into the Top 10 on Prime Video across 31 countries, reflecting the expanding global reach of Indian storytelling.
According to a Prime Video press release, the film recorded strong engagement across India, attracting viewers from 91 percent of the country’s pin codes during its launch window on the platform. The performance highlights the growing demand for high-quality Indian stories that combine emotionally driven narratives with large-scale cinematic storytelling.
Directed by Suresh Triveni, the film is an Opening Image Films production in association with Anil Kapoor Film & Communication Network. The project is produced by Vikram Malhotra, Anil Kapoor and Suresh Triveni, and written by Suresh Triveni and Prajwal Chandrashekar.
The film features Anil Kapoor in the lead role as Subedaar Arjun Maurya, alongside Radhikka Madan. The ensemble cast also includes Mona Singh, Saurabh Shukla, Aditya Rawal, Faisal Malik and Khushboo Sundar in key roles.
Commenting on the film’s performance, Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of Originals at Prime Video India, said the strong response reflects the growing scale and global appeal of Indian storytelling. He added that the emotionally driven narrative of a soldier confronting his toughest battles beyond the battlefield has resonated with audiences worldwide. Madhok also praised Anil Kapoor’s performance and Suresh Triveni’s direction, noting that the ensemble cast has contributed to the film receiving widespread appreciation from viewers.
The story follows Subedaar Arjun Maurya, a retired soldier trying to navigate the complexities of civilian life while confronting a world shaped by crime and corruption. At its core, the narrative also explores the emotional bond between a father and daughter, adding a personal dimension to the high-stakes action drama.
The film began streaming exclusively on Prime Video on March 5 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, and is available to audiences across India as well as in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
