Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has sealed a deal to become the official broadcaster for New Zealand Cricket (NZC) matches for the next seven years.
Under the agreement, effective from May 1, 2024 to April 30, 2031, SPNI has acquired the television and digital rights to broadcast and stream all matches involving New Zealand’s Blackcaps and White Ferns teams in India and associated territories, media statement from SPNI said.
This includes bilateral Tests, ODIs, and T20Is played in New Zealand during the designated period, as well as India’s tours to New Zealand in the 2026-27 and 2030-31 summers.
NP Singh, Managing Director and CEO of Sony Pictures Networks India, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to announce our new partnership with New Zealand Cricket. New Zealand is renowned for its exceptional sportsmanship and strength; it’s one of the most respected cricket teams globally.”
Diana Puketapu-Lyndon, Chair of New Zealand Cricket, echoed Singh’s sentiments, emphasizing the significance of the collaboration between the two organizations. She described SPNI as “one of the premier sports content providers in India” and expressed anticipation for the association.
Rajesh Kaul, SPNI’s Chief Revenue Officer – Distribution & International Business and Head – Sports Business, welcomed NZC to its portfolio of cricket content, emphasizing the addition of marquee properties to their sports portfolio. Kaul highlighted the upcoming bilateral series against England, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan, as well as the inclusion of matches featuring the Indian men’s team.
Scott Weenink, NZC chief executive, expressed delight with the agreement, noting the alignment of values between the two organizations. He emphasized SPNI’s consumer-centric approach and its commitment to excellence, which resonates strongly with NZC.
Chris Smith, NZC GM Commercial, emphasized the significance of the partnership, particularly in the Indian market. He praised SPNI’s expansive presence in India across linear and digital platforms and anticipated a mutually beneficial relationship.
This partnership marks a significant milestone for both SPNI and NZC, promising to deliver top-quality cricket action to fans across India until the end of the 2031 season. With the BLACKCAPS’ recent successes and the growing popularity of cricket in India, this collaboration is poised to captivate audiences and elevate the sport to new heights.
