Former Indian cricket team’s captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, who is quite adept at springing surprises and was known for batting on the front foot during his heydays, has hit another six in the form of a Rs. 125 crore TV deal with Bengali entertainment channel Star Jalsha for hosting a couple of television shows, according to news18.com.
Ganguly, who was earlier associated with the Zee group for a popular Bengali language TV show ‘Dadagiri’, disclosed his new batting partner (Star Jalsha) during an interview with News18 Bangla that immediately flashed the development. The News18.com report, quoting sources, said Ganguly will be hosting a Bengali version of ‘Bigg Boss’ and another unnamed quiz show on Star Jalsha, which is part of Reliance Industries’ media empire JioStar.
Commenting on starting a new inning, Ganguly, according to the news18.com report, said, “I am very happy to be associated with Star Jalsha. We are starting a new chapter together, focusing on storytelling through innovative non-fiction programmes.
“I have always believed in the power of connecting with people beyond cricket. This collaboration will allow me to achieve that by presenting new formats and real-life stories that will inspire and entertain.”
Ganguly, according to media reports, has previously also hosted the Bengali version of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ and appeared in several cricket analysis programmes. The cricket icon, like his peer and fellow team mate Sachin Tendulkar, continues to lead an active public life after retirement from cricket and has a huge fan following.
Ganguly was the Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals, both in the IPL and WPL, before being replaced by Venugopal Rao in 2025. A Hindustan Times report said that he has been named as Director of Cricket for JSW Sports, which will see him involved in all cricketing properties owned by the organisation, including the Delhi Capitals IPL and WPL teams.
