Sameer Nair-helmed Applause Entertainment, which has a stellar reputation for adapting shows for the Indian audiences, pushed hard to negotiate a deal with the makers of ‘Fauda’, an Israeli show that was a global hit, including in India, with its three seasons.
It has now come to light that SonyLIV will air the Indian adaption of ‘Fauda’ that is called ‘Tanaav’ (tension or stress in Hindi)
‘Fauda’ in Arabic means ‘chaos’, but it is also, apparently, a term that Israeli special forces use when a mission goes wrong. Though it is difficult to say how much of the content was based on true events, but the original did reflect the Arab-Israeli conflict, the lives of special ops personnel and how two warring sides, at times, help each other with intel when the enemy could pose common danger.
According to several media reports, ‘Tanaav’ — a socio-political drama — tells the story of a special covert ops unit, their bravery, and courage. The storyline highlights the human drama behind the political ideologies, complex emotions and flawed human characters, and all of whom share the same feelings of love, loss, betrayal, and revenge.
The Indian version promises to highlight the issue of Indo-Pakistan relations, and deconstruct historical conflicts to offer a new perspective.
Shot extensively in real locations in Kashmir over 100 days, this fast-paced drama is told over 12 nail-biting episodes and is based in the year 2017.
Helmed by National Award-Winning Director Sudhir Mishra and co-directed by Sachin Mamta Krishn.
Sameer Nair, CEO of Applause Entertainment, was quoted by Variety as saying, “A global sensation, ‘Fauda’ was always a story waiting to cross borders and be adapted in a new setting. We at Applause Entertainment find it immensely gratifying to bring an edge-of-the-seat drama of this caliber to Indian audiences, offering a new perspective to the human stories depicting all sides of the conflict.
“With filmmakers like Sudhir Mishra and Sachin Krishn at the helm, backed by a stellar cast and talented writing, creative, and production teams, we are excited to partner with SonyLIV to bring this show to the world. This partnership only strengthens our already strong relationship with SonyLIV after successful collaborations on ‘Scam 1992’, ‘Avrodh’, ‘Undekhi’ and ‘Your Honor’.”
