SonyLIV is set to bring one of India’s most revered historical sagas to the screen with the launch of ‘Chakravarti Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan’, premiering June 4 at 7.30 pm on both Sony Entertainment Television and SonyLIV.
Produced by Contiloe Pictures, the series promises a grand retelling of the 12th-century warrior king’s life — going beyond legend to focus on leadership, strategy, and the indomitable spirit of a young ruler.
The official announcement marks a shift from traditional portrayals of Prithviraj Chauhan, which often romanticised his bond with Princess Sanyogita. This new historical drama turns the spotlight on the realpolitik of the era and the young king’s fierce patriotism as he defended his land against the formidable Muhammad Ghori.
“This is not just a love story it’s a tale of a boy king who took on the mantle of empire at the age of 12,” said Abhimanyu Singh, Founder & CEO of Contiloe Pictures, in the official release. “His courage and patriotism at such a young age were nothing short of legendary. The show captures how Prithviraj Chauhan grew from a child monarch to a warrior who would face one of history’s most feared invaders.”
Blending meticulous historical research with cinematic storytelling, the series seeks to resurrect an era marked by relentless conflict, dynastic challenges, and political intrigue. The narrative will follow Prithviraj’s rise as a military strategist and statesman, leading up to his defining battles against Ghori — a moment that remains deeply etched in India’s cultural memory.
‘Chakravarti Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan’ is backed by opulent sets, elaborate costumes, choreographed battle sequences, and an ensemble cast aimed at bringing historical authenticity and emotional depth to the screen.
This marks another historical venture for Contiloe Pictures, known for their legacy of high-quality period dramas. With this series, SonyLIV strengthens its original content lineup by spotlighting stories rooted in Indian heritage, courage, and cultural pride.
As Indian viewers continue to embrace period storytelling through web and television platforms, this series stands out as a rare attempt to explore the making of a king, rather than merely celebrating his legend.
