This Makar Sankranti, Sony YAY! is bringing together the joy of the harvest festival and the fun of its much-loved toons with a playful, food-led celebration that blends tradition with entertainment. Known for sunshine, colourful kites and til-gud delicacies, the festival gets an extra dose of cheer as the channel pairs its popular characters with classic Sankranti mithai, giving young viewers and families a fresh reason to tune in.
According to a press release, the initiative reimagines Makar Sankranti through the lens of Sony YAY!’s iconic characters, matching their personalities with festive sweets that are deeply rooted in Indian culture. The idea is simple yet engaging—celebrating new beginnings and warmth with flavours that feel familiar, while adding a layer of toon masti that resonates with kids.
‘Naruto’ is paired with the humble til ladoo, a sweet that stands for strength and energy during winter, much like the character’s relentless determination and fighting spirit. Shinchan, with his mischievous charm, finds his match in gud revdi—crunchy, sweet and full of surprises, reflecting his unpredictable antics. ‘Oggy and the Cockroaches’ are likened to til-gud chikki, capturing the contrast between calm and chaos that defines their comic world.
‘Hunny Bunny Ka Jholmaal’ is associated with puran poli, a soft and comforting festive favourite that mirrors the duo’s lovable nature and joyful energy. ‘Kicko’ and ‘Super Speedo’ are matched with peanut chikki, symbolising power, speed and instant energy, while ‘Bhoot Boss Diaries’ is paired with til barfi, combining a hint of mystery with a rich, sweet core.
Through this festive storytelling, Sony YAY! aims to connect tradition with contemporary kids’ entertainment, making Makar Sankranti both relatable and fun. As families come together to celebrate the harvest festival, the channel invites viewers to enjoy their favourite sweets alongside their favourite toons, reinforcing the idea that celebrations feel warmer, brighter and sweeter with Sony YAY! at the centre of the fun.
