Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) is set to launch its much-awaited Tamil general entertainment channel Sony Vizha on October 19, 2026 at 8 pm, with the brand promise ‘Ithu Namma Vibe’ aimed at celebrating Tamil Nadu’s people, culture and everyday moments.
According to a press release issued by SPNI, Sony Vizha will celebrate Tamil Nadu as it is lived and experienced today through its language, culture, traditions, aspirations and distinctive way of life. The channel aims to bring together global formats, marquee talent and stories created for Tamil audiences, combining contemporary entertainment with the state’s cultural identity.
The ‘Ithu Namma Vibe’ proposition will be reflected through the small but recognisable things associated with Tamil Nadu, including its food, music, spirited conversations, shared celebrations and everyday moments that bring people together. The brand film captures these experiences through the lens of ‘Vizha’, described by the channel as a celebration of everything Tamil.
Sony Vizha will begin its journey with two popular global entertainment formats reimagined for Tamil audiences. The opening line-up includes ‘Celebrity MasterChef Tamil’, featuring Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and ‘Tamil Idol’, featuring A.R. Rahman. The two shows bring together globally known formats and prominent Indian personalities as part of the channel’s entertainment offering.
Rajaraman Sundaram, Chief Content Officer – South Regional, Sony Pictures Networks India, said Sony Vizha has been created with the ambition of celebrating Tamil Nadu as it is today — confident, contemporary, rooted in its culture and constantly evolving. He said the “Ithu Namma Vibe” proposition captures the people, warmth, traditions and everyday moments that make Tamil Nadu distinctive.
“We are coming to an audience with an extraordinary love for entertainment and a very strong sense of what feels truly Tamil, and we approach this journey with both humility and excitement,” Sundaram said, adding that the channel hopes to bring stories and experiences that feel fresh, relevant and familiar to audiences.
Sony Vizha will go live from October 19, 2026, at 8 pm.
